Monumental Thoughts celebrates 15 years

What a long journey. Monumental Thoughts has been my diary-like journey of Washington wanderings for 15 years as a licensed tour guide.

The time passes quickly.

No idea how many steps or miles or times on the Lincoln Memorial steps since starting in 2010. I can say about 7,200 people read this blog in 2024. That’s half of its heyday, but I still update every Monday, Wednesday and Friday . . . unless I forget.

Mostly, the blog has transitioned to videos as part of my Rick Snider’s Washington social media empire that saw 7.2 million views in 2024. Indeed, I plan to change the blog’s name to Rick Snider’s Washington soon as part of general branding.

I’ll turn 65 soon. I recently read if you make 65 you’ll likely make 85 so I have 20 more years wandering and writing. I’m the longest-running sports writer in Washington since 1978, but today is my last day at 106.7 The Fan. Seems the corporation desperately needs my very small penance to avoid bankruptcy. But, after 11 years, I’ll exit with only appreciation.

For now, I’m shifting to Yardbarker for Washington Commanders columns, but I go where God thinks best and it always works out best. That means more time on other projects, family and traveling.

My first new project will be “52 Questions with God” where I partner with a minister to discuss what we’d ask God that’s normally not discussed from the pulpit. Each Sunday morning is 1 question over 10 minutes. It starts soon. Please watch.

I’ll still be involved in tour guiding, book projects, a play, teaching history online, editing church sermons, hanging with grandkids, expanding my garden and traveling to Hawaii and Europe in 2025.

I don’t do bored well.

Thank you for reading. It means a lot to an old writer. And, if you want to go on a personal tour, just email me at MonumentalThoughts@gmail.com.
