A note from Megan (Snider) Johnson, Rick’s daughter:
With broken hearts, we share that Rick Snider, beloved husband and father, passed Aug. 26, 2025. Please learn more about Rick’s life in his full obituary.
I hope to more articulately talk about my dad’s life and legacy in the future, but the feelings are so raw. As a columnist myself, I have shared a few thoughts over the last two months – but trying to shape our loss into words remains overwhelming.
It seems truly impossible that he’s gone.
One of Dad’s final projects was the creation of a book centered on the Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels. In typical Rick fashion, he’d already begun to promote it through a series of posts he wrote (and scheduled!) months in advance.
Dad always had a new project up his sleeve. He liked – no, needed – to stay busy. The weight of his undone projects – a half-finished life – is hard to process. But in our grief, we’ve focused on continuing as many of his initiatives as we can, which means sharing his final work widely, as he intended.
Dad wrote the following post earlier this summer, shortly after turning in the manuscript to the publisher. He was so proud to have made his deadline and cranked out another work ahead of his 65th birthday.
Purchase a book directly from our family through this link. We’ll include a bookmark I created for Dad’s celebration of life, as supply lasts, with our gratitude.
Dad loved history, talking football, his family and friends who became family, crabs, and Diet Coke. He loved this little corner of the internet, too. Thank you for being here.
A note from Rick – July 2025:
The phone rang in May. My old publisher needed a Jayden Daniels book . . . in a month! My last book took six months. Books are a lot of work, a month seemed crazy.
And then I wrote it.
Jayden Daniels: Smooth Operator (Triumph Publishing) reviews Daniels’ rookie season where the impossible happened. A Hail Mary win over Chicago that changed the season. Five straight last-second victories entering the NFC Championship.
I remember thinking, “My God, they’re one game away from making the Super Bowl and just played their best game of the season beating Detroit.” And then Philadelphia clocked them and Kansas City to win the Super Bowl.
Anyway, Daniels delivered the unthinkable all while remaining the humble, hard-working person that entered Commanders Park in May 2024.
The book chronicles games and relationships plus some interesting tidbits about Daniels (He eats waffles only on game days) along with many photos.
Thanks for your support.
