On my walking tours of Georgetown is a stop at Holy Trinity Church near the college where John and Jackie Kennedy attended. This early 1960s photo helps remember the First Couple during the height of Camelot as we stand by the same steps. Notice Jackie covering her hair? That was standard at Catholic churches then.
Those kids? They’re in their 70s now.
The couple lived a five-minute walk down N St. from the church before moving to the White House. It was the last church JFK attended before his 1963 assassination. The church was too small for the funeral, which was at nearby St. Michael’s on Rhode Island Ave. NW.
Holy Trinity remains open. It’s a rare Saturday in the spring and fall that doesn’t host a wedding.
