What happened to horse caissons at Arlington?

One of the more stirring moments at Arlington National Cemetery has been the horse caissons. It just brings the emotions of the moment to your throat.

But I hadn’t seem them for a while and it turns out the horses have been sidelined for nearly two years. Here’s an excellent story on why.

Training needed for horse caissons to return

Who knew it was such a hard life on the horses or how much training was needed for both horses and riders? But just like the sentinel walking the Tomb of the Unknowns, there is a precision to everything at Arlington as it should be.

One day the caissons will return. Please stop and pay respect to a soul going to their grave.
