Ike Memorial has those who don’t like design

The proposed Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial at Independence and Maryland Avenues has opposition from the namesake’s family, who don’t like Frank Gehry’s depiction of Ike as a barefoot boy. Indeed, Ike’s grandson David Eisenhower has resigned from the memorial commission.

The Washington Examiner runs down the dispute, but what I like is the arguing is happening now rather than after it’s erected like the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial’s dispute over writing on the marble monument. Creating shoes to put on Ike later would be ridiculous, much less probably stolen.

Like I always say, and I can say this as a native, the only thing we make in Washington is disputes.
