It’s always the stupid stuff that gets you.
I’m sidelined for a couple weeks after suffering a sprained knee. I’m just glad it’s not a torn knee ligament that would have meant surgery and 3-6 months rehab.
I’m also a sports columnist for The Washington Examiner. Been a local sports writer for 33 years and was covering someone on the water the other day. First time in my career on the Anacostia River. Well, I’m not on very small boats too often and at age 50 not quite as balanced (mentally or physically) as I once was.
I stepped off the boat onto the dock. I’m not quite sure what happened next, but it ends with me knocked onto the dock’s deck and my knee hurting. I think the boat rose when my weight came off and caught my second foot, but it literally knocked me to the deck.
Oh well, live and learn — not to get on small boats anymore. Meanwhile, Abe, FDR and the hills of Arlington National Cemetery will get along without me. And at 100 degrees, it’s not the worst time to sit on the couch.
